  • 1 16oz bag Palmetto Gardens™ Turnip Greens
  • 1 3/4 cup water
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 4 sliced uncured bacon
  • 2 large apples, cored and cut into 1 inch pieces
  • 1/2 red onion, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • Black pepper, to taste

 

  1. In a large pot over high-heat, bring turnip greens, water and salt to a boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer, covered stirring occasionally, until greens are almost tender, about 20 mins. stirring occasionally. Strain and set aside.
  2. While the greens are cooking, heat a large cast iron skillet over medium heat. Add the bacon and cook about 3-4 min. per side. Remove the bacon from the pan and set aside on a plate.
  3. Add the apples and red onion, and cook over medium heat about 3 minutes. Add the cooked greens, vinegar, sugar and black pepper and cook for another5 minutes until the apples are cooked through and the flavors are mixed well together.
  4. Serve 1/4 of the recipe with your favorite lean meat like poultry, pork tenderloin or fish.
